What does gold karat 14 & 18 mean?

18k gold means gold that contains 75% pure gold, which corresponds to 18k. The remaining 24.9% is a mixture of other metals, such as copper & silver.

14k gold means gold that contains 58.5% pure gold, which corresponds to 14 carats. Remaining 41.5% a mixture of other metals, such as copper & silver.

What does white gold mean?

White gold contains 75% fine gold and 16% palladium as well as other metals such as silver and copper.

At valuation

When valuing gold, you first look at the stamps, which should be on the piece of jewellery. If there is no stamp on the piece of jewelry, a chemical analysis is done. The carat content is then confirmed with an on-site chemical analysis/scratch test.
